If You and I Had Coffee

If you and I had coffee...

We'd meet up at an adorable, tiny coffee shop. We'd take advantage of the a/c and stay for a while because it's too hot outside. I would order a frappuccino and a pastry.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I just completed the first online session of the Here e-course by Liz Lamoreux. I've mentioned it before that I was really enjoying the class. Now that I have completed the first session, I can say once again that I absolutely loved the class. I started the course on August 1st and never missed a single day. It's been a long time since I've journaled or did anything art related for ten consecutive days. I'm not so great with daily challenges and classes, but I really made an effort to take the time to work on the prompts. I'm happy that I did. Honestly, this e-course came by just when I needed it. It's hard to explain, but I'm taking it as a sign, and it has led me to work on some big projects.

The next session starts on August 14, and I can't wait. Even though the first session ended, I plan to continue to journal every day.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that we got some great news, and it looks like we are going to be able to accomplish some big goals next year. I'm just trying to stay focused and am going to keep working on those goals. I can't wait to see how everything turns out. Please wish us good luck.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd ask you which shows do you recommend on Hulu and Netflix? I'm still catching up on a few shows, but I would love to start some new ones. I've been thinking about watching The Handmaid's Tale. Have you watched it? Do you recommend it?

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I'm considering buying a camera, but I'm having a hard time deciding which one to get. There are so many different brands and versions of cameras to choose from. Do you have any recommendations? Oh, and if you have any photography class recommendations, please feel free to share them. I know I'm going to need all the help I can get.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I am so over politics right now. It's depressing, and it really sucks. This country is so broken. I think I'm going stop watching the news for the next few days...maybe a week or two. Usually, I say that it's so important to be up to date with current events, but I also think that it's essential to take care of yourself. If the news is making you sick and it's affecting you then I think it's perfectly fine to avoid the news for a few days.

What would you tell me?

Thanks for visiting!

Until next time...

  1. I have watched The Handmaid's Tale and really enjoy it. It can be dark and heavy at times so I'd recommend something light to balance it with as well, but it is very well done and definitely worth a watch!

    1. Oh yes. I definitely plan to watch something light. So many people have recommended that I watch something funny or light if I decide to watch The Handmaid's Tale.

  2. It's been SO HOT! I'm looking forward to the cooler days ahead. That course sounds really interesting. I love guided creative projects like that. So fun. I'm excited about the good news you received and hope everything continues to work out. I am still watching The West Wing on Netflix but I want to get into the Handmaid's Tale as soon as I finish. Everyone is saying how good it is, so I can't wait to start. I loved the book. That's funny that you mention wanting to get a camera. I used to have a photography business with my ex-husband and am getting rid of all of my camera equipment because it doesn't excite me anymore. I'm at the stage of my life where I enjoy taking pictures on my phone more than using professional equipment. As far as classes, I would recommend checking out Pinterest and YouTube. Depending on what camera you decide to get, search for tutorials specificially for that camera and you'll find a bunch. I have several photography boards on Pinterest if you ever want to look through them. I'm with you on the politics. I've had to take a break from Twitter because it's been overwhelming and I've been really frustrated at all the "fake news" spam/trolls out there. It's okay to take a break from this stuff. I call it self care. Thanks so much for having a coffee date with me today, Em. Hope to see you next month! <3

    1. I'm so looking forward to fall. I've been slowly watching The Vampire Diaries and I am also watching Castlevania. Castlevania is a bit dark and can be gory, but it's a pretty good animated series.

What kind of camera did you use? I'd love to check out your photography boards on Pinterest.

  3. Oh man. The last thing you said about the news hits home. I’m having a hard time for the reasons you mention—I like to be aware and able to hold a conversation about politics but lately I can’t help but think everyone is just yelling at each other all the time and it’s so emotionally draining. Maybe time for a detox for me, too.

I’m savoring the last season of OITNB—it is sooo good. I haven’t seen the Handmaids Tale yet but hear good things!

    1. Yes! The news really has been emotionally draining and honestly, I'm just so tired. I highly recommend a detox from the news. After not watching the news for the past few days, I've noticed my energy shifted.

Is it crazy that I haven't even watched OITNB yet?

  4. The news really is heartbreaking these days. I think it's okay to avoid it for a bit; you have to look after yourself too and it can really get you down. I just watched Dead to Me on Netflix and LOVED it, so I'd recommend that one.

    1. I've avoided watching or reading the news for the past few days and it's been so great. I've heard that Dead to Me was really good. I'll have to add it to my list of shows to watch.

  5. I'm also taking a huge break from the news. It's really kind of great to just not have it on and not read it. It's going to be nothing but awful until the next presidential election anyways so I'll worry about problems I can actually fix.

Hmm... I would tell you I have now become fully obsessed with Brene Brown and listen to anything and everything I can find with her on my walks. It's so great.

    1. So many people have recommended Brene Brown. I'm not sure which book to read first.

  6. I’ve canceled my Netflix subscription cause I’d watched everything that appealed to me, but Jane the Virgin was a standout - I definitely recommend it if you haven’t seen it already. The Handmaids Tale seems a bit dark for my taste. Keeping up with the news can be hard going...sometimes it’s okay to leave it in God’s hands and take a break for your own peace of mind. Lovely to have coffee with you today, Emi!

    1. I haven't watched Jane the Virgin yet. Love Gina Rodriguez. I'm not sure why it's taking me so long to actually start watching the show lol. Everyone has warned me that The Handmaid's Tale can be a bit dark, but they also say that it's a really great show.

I haven't watched the news in a few days and it's been so great not having to hear about all the terrible things that is currently happening. I will say that it has left me feeling a bit conflicted because I know that I should be up to date on what's going on. But not watching the news really has shifted my energy.

  7. Getting a camera sounds fun. Check out www.creativelive.com - it's an online learning platform and they stream daily photography classes for free but you can buy them also. I can recommend the "Fundamentals of Photography" by John Greene. Best luck with your exciting goals.
