One Little Word 2021

We're halfway into January, and I probably should have shared this post at the beginning of the month, but it's better late than never...I guess.

My one little word for 2021 is SEEK. This will be my main word for the year, but I decided to have a second word. My second word is TETHER. When I kept thinking about what my word should be for the year, both of these words kept coming up in my head. It was difficult to decide which word to choose, so I decided to have them both. It makes sense because both of these words are tied to things that are going on in my life right now.

Seek /sēk/ verb

attempt to find (something)
attempt or desire to obtain or achieve (something)
ask for (something) from someone

Tether /ˈteT͟Hər/
noun

1. A rope, chain, strap, or cord for keeping an animal within a certain radius
A similar ropelike restraint used as a safety measure, as for a young child or an astronaut outside a spacecraft
A rope, chain, cable, or other line for restraining or securing an object.

2. The extent or limit of one's resources, abilities, or endurance

3. A range of allowable behavior or responsibility

transitive verb

To restrain or secure with a tether.

For the past few months, I feel like I have been seeking something in my life. What that something is, I have no idea. I'm not sure if I have been going through this due to the pandemic or because of my milestone birthday (I just turned 30 this month!), but it's been a little frustrating and exciting. As for the word tether, I feel like certain things are holding me back from finding what I am looking for, and some things are tethered to me that will help me find what I am looking for.

I know that both words will be part of my personal and "work" life. Writing, being creative, and my overall life is going to be influenced by these words. It's actually already happening. I'm still seeking something unknown about my writing, creative hobbies, and myself in general. Maybe this year will be the year that I finally find what I am looking for.

Either way, I can't wait to see the changes and experiences these words will bring for me in 2021.

What is your word for 2021? What do you hope to accomplish this year?

Target Finds

Happy Wednesday! It's time for another edition of Target Finds! Last month (and at the beginning of this month), I found so many great things at Target. I'm happy to say that I loved every single item.

Let's check out what I found at Target.

I love M&M's, and I love cheesecake, so this is a perfect combination. I was so excited when I found out that there's a (new?) flavor out for Valentine's Day. At first, it doesn't taste like cheesecake, but then it does. That made no sense at all, but trust me on this or just try them for yourself.

I'm not a big fan of wine or sparkling wine, but I really enjoyed La Marca Prosecco. I decided to get a bottle for New Year's Eve, and it was so good. I read a few reviews and saw that someone mentioned adding orange juice to this prosecco, so I decided to try it. It was so good. It tasted a bit sweet, but the flavor was rich and so crisp. I ended up buying a second bottle for my birthday.

I'm a huge fan of Rugrats, so I had to buy this shirt when I saw it. It's so comfortable and fits well. It's not too long or too short...it's the perfect length. I'm not a fan of form-fitting t-shirts and this t-shirt is a bit loose, but not too loose.

I have been looking for shredded chicken for a while. Imagine my surprise when I browsed the Target app and came upon a recipe that included this shredded chicken. Usually, if I have to make a recipe that uses shredded chicken, I would have to shred the chicken. I hate cooking, and I'm all about making things easier when cooking, so I was shocked and happy when I found this. This shredded chicken tastes good, is decently priced, and I love that I can use it in so many recipes. It's great in salads, soups, and lots of other quick and easy meals.

Overall, I loved all of the things that I purchased at Target. As usual, I saved on all of my Target Finds by using the Cartwheel app, buying items on sale, or buying things at the Dollar Spot section.

What are some of your favorite Target Finds?

January Goals

Happy New Year! 2020 felt like the longest year ever, but it also went by really quick. It makes absolutely no sense at all, but I'm sure you all understand what I mean. Last year was definitely a difficult one for most people (myself, included), so I'm happy that it's finally 2021.

Even though 2020 was a terrible year, it wasn't all that bad. I have a few posts that I hope to publish soon about 2020, so be on the lookout for those. I'm not sure if I'll post about my yearly goals, so this post will focus on my monthly goals.

With that being said since it's a new month (and a new year!), let's check out my new goals for the month, as well as a recap on how I did last month.

Recap of December Goals

  • Read 4 books: I accomplished this goal! I read a few good books and was so happy to catch up on some books that took me a long time to finish.
  • Finish 2 books (that's been taking me forever to finish reading): I finished reading Uber Bossy by Marika Ray, Tormented by Alison Aimes, and Notes on a Nervous Planet by Matt Haig. All three books were pretty decent reads and honestly shouldn't have taken me so long to read them.
  • Publish 1 personal piece for the blog: This was a fail. I simply didn't have the time to post and decided to take it easy with blogging in December.
  • Try 1 new recipe: I finally accomplished this goal! I actually tried two new recipes. Both of them were soups. I tried the Tuscan Chicken Soup from Target, but I substituted the Tuscan broth with the Tortilla Soup Starter broth). I also added corn, potatoes, and carrots. I used the Tortilla Soup Starter broth for the second recipe, but this time, I stuck (mostly) to the recipe on the back of the container. I decided to try to make the Tex Mex Soup recipe with a couple of twists. Last month was definitely a month for soups, simple meals, and comfort food. One of the best things about these two recipes is that my kids loved the soups.
  • Work in my journal: I accomplished this goal. I worked in my journal a lot more than I expected. I was hoping to finish my journal/sketchbook at the end of December, but I still have a few more pages left. I really hope that I can start a new journal on the day of my birthday.

January Goals

  • Read 5 books
  • Finish at least 1 book that I didn't finish reading in 2020
  • Try 1 new recipe
  • Drink more water
  • Complete my December Daily(ish) travelers notebook
  • Complete the first month of Ali Edwards' One Little Word class
  • Complete 1 class on Skillshare
  • Publish 1 personal piece on the blog

What are your goals for January? How did you do in December? Have you set any yearly goals?
