If You and I Had Coffee

If you and I had coffee...

We'd meet a new coffee shop. We'd order hot drinks, and pumpkin-flavored pastries to celebrate September and Fall's imminent arrival. It's been scorching in the afternoon so we would probably have our coffee date in the morning and enjoy the cooler weather.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd ask you what you are currently listening to. Any new (or new-to-you) music? Podcasts? I don't listen to a lot of podcasts, but I really love the Crafty Ass Female podcast. Lately, I've been listening to a lot of older songs that I never heard of, but have fallen in love with. I currently love Another Love by Tom Odell. I tend to find new songs when they are featured in TV shows or movies. It's one of the many reasons why I love to watch TV.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I've been on a significant creative journey. There are so many projects that I'm currently working on. I'm working on the 30 Days of Lists challenge, my journal/sketchbook, and I'm going to participate in Get Messy's Season of Habit. I think I already know which book I'm going to use for the Get Messy challenge. I've been trying so many different types of mediums and techniques. It's been great learning about what I like and don't like. I've been trying to embrace the imperfections of my work.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I have been loving Instagram. I currently love @reson8ed, @olikanejournals, @brenda.kaya, @marinette_scrap, @rehamcihan, @playingonpaper, @patrice_sketches, @thistleandthimbles, and @cayleegrey.

These accounts are filled with so much art, journaling, and color. I've been inspired by all of these artists.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I am so excited for Fall. Honestly, I've been saying that it's already Fall. My kids have already started school, and it's already September, so I consider Fall to already have made its arrival. There are leaves on the ground, we've had cooler mornings, and I've been consuming Pumpkin Spice Lattes, so it's definitely Fall.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I'm on the verge of cutting off a few extremely toxic people in my life. It really sucks when it's family and close friends that need to be cut off. But when they are constantly terrible to you, and it's starting to affect you, then it's time to start taking care of yourself and your mental health. If that means limiting or flat out cutting them out of your life then so be it.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I'm supposed to go to a wedding next month, but I'm having the hardest time figuring out what to wear. I'd ask for your help in finding an outfit. I seriously need all the help that I can get.

What would you tell me?

Thanks for visiting!

Until next time...

  1. Always love a good coffee date! I hope your creative challenges go well. And it is always hard to cut toxic people out of your life but as you said, sometimes it's necessary for your mental well being. <3

    1. Thank you so much Beth. I agree it's really hard, but it feels like a weight has been lifted. I feel a lot more at peace.

  2. This little coffee shop sounds lovely. I have been craving pumpkin pound cake with a little bit of cream cheese swirled in. Yum! I've been sticking with my go-to playlists on Spotify and have been binging on political podcasts. I love the ladies over at Pansuit Politics. They always have a sensible approach to interpreting things that are happening in the government and in the world and they help me de-stress when a certain someone has been tweeting too much. I'm excited about this creative journey you're on. My creativity seems to have waned off a bit over the last year. I've been focusing on other things so it's been forever since I've pulled out my paints or calligraphy pens. I need to get back into that stuff though. I will have to check out some of those Instagram accounts. I'm always looking for new creative people to follow, so thanks for sharing those! I can't blame you at all for cutting off toxic people. I've had to do some of that myself and it's no fun, but life is so much easier without all the drama they brought. I always struggle with what to wear at weddings. Usually, if it's an evening event, I stick with a black dress of some kind. Daytime, maybe a pretty floral print? I'm not very fashionable, so I'm probably no help at all. Haha! Emily, I'm so glad you were able to join the coffee date this month. Hope to see you again next time! <3

    1. Oh my goodness! Pumpkin pound cake sounds delicious. I have to look up a recipe so I can make one at home. I've been in a baking mood. This usually happens around this time of year.

The wedding that I'm going to is in the evening. A black dress sounds nice. I'm also not very fashionable lol.

  3. Awww you know I always love these posts! I’ve been in a weird uninspired funk lately, so I may have to use this as a kickstarter to some writing. I always loved the format here ❤️

I’m living for and loving up on all things fall lately, too. I’ve asked Bryan to unearth the Halloween and fall decorations and part of me feels like it’s early and then the other half doesn’t care bc pumpkins 😊 I would love a maple pecan or pumpkin flavored scone or whatever/ mmmm...

Also: the bullet about cutting off the toxic people in your life. I have so many thoughts on this... it is the hardest thing to ever do. Ever. But like Beth said, it really is necessary sometimes. I had a weird thing with a relative this week too and it kind of threw me for a loop and then I found myself taking it out on Bryan. Because that’s what you do when you hurt—you take that stuff out in the people around you. And I realized that’s totally unhealthy and sometimes it’s good to take a break from that kind of energy in your life ❤️ As always, sending much love.

    1. I don't think it's too early to decorate for Fall and Halloween. I've been wanting to decorate since August lol. Oh my goodness a maple pecan of pumpkin scone sounds amazing. You just made me want to head out to a bakery.

That's one of the worst things when you're having issues with family. You end up taking out on other people and it really sucks. I have to admit, I've been feeling a lot more at peace.

  6. I’m listening to Imagine Dragons and Bastille at the moment - love them! My favourite podcast lately is the Bible Binge, which is a funny, fresh and informative look at Bible stories. Your creative project sounds like lots of fun - I hope you get a lot out of it. Lovely to have coffee with you today, Emi!

  7. The podcast sounds so interesting and I have to check it out. I also love to follow artists on Instagram – main reason to be there.
Toxic people in life are so energy draining. And its such a hard process getting rid of them. Good luck.
