10 Things That Made Me Happy This Week

Happy Saturday! Today I'm linking up with Charlotte, Lindsay, and Beth for their weekly grateful and happy list link-up. I was actually going to skip my happy list post this week because, to be honest, this week was absolutely terrible. However, I still want to remember the little things that brought me a little bit of comfort during this dumpster fire of a week.

1. Back-to-School shopping

2. Target

3. Long, hot baths

4. Cozy pajamas

5. The relationship tropes trend on Instagram

6. Spending time with my sons and husband

7. Receiving new arcs to read (So excited to read Feel Something, Make Something by Caitlin Metz)

8. Listening to Verano Smash by DJ Elements

9. Cleaning and organizing

10. Reading

If You And I Had Coffee

If you and I had coffee...

We'd meet up at our favorite Starbucks that's located in Target. I'd order a Trenta Strawberry Açaí instead of a coffee and maybe a chocolate croissant. I'd apologize that we couldn't meet in June, but I'm so glad we can catch up this month.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I have been enjoying my summer. One of the perks of my new job is being off during summer. I'm so glad I can spend time with my boys and still go on adventures with them. We've been checking things off our summer bucket list and having so much fun.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I'm already planning for Back-to-School. Target Circle Week starts next week, and I can't wait. Target usually has great Back-to-School deals during that time, so I'm holding out on many things we need and want to buy.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that summer reading has been so good this year. I have been reading so much and borrowing books from my library. I love going to the library, and I always get nostalgic when visiting one. It reminds me of the immense joy I would feel when I was a kid and would borrow stacks of books. I placed a few books on hold, and they should be available for pickup in the next few days.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I'm so glad that we were able to catch up this month, and I hope we can meet again next month. I hope you continue to enjoy your summer.

What would you tell me?

July Goals

Happy Monday! Can you believe that it's July? Summer is going by way too fast and I'm kind of sad about it. School will start again next month and we'll have to get back to our normal routine. So I'm planning to enjoy this month as much as possible.

Last month was great. We aren't going out of town this year so we've been busy having fun around town. We've also been going to the pool and going out to get ice cream. We celebrated Father's Day. I read so many good books in June which was perfect timing because it rained off and on all month.

This month is going to be so busy, but also full of fun events. Today is Mami's birthday and in the next couple of weeks, John and I will be celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary! We still have so many things to do and places to see.

However, I've already started planning for Back-to-School shopping and preparing to head back to work after summer ends. Although it's going to be a busy month, I still have a few goals that I hope to accomplish, but I'm going to give myself some grace this month. I wouldn't be surprised if I barely get any of my monthly goals completed, but I'll try to remember them.

Since I mentioned my monthly goals, let's have a quick recap on how I did with my goals for June and check out my new goals for July.

Recap of June Goals

  • Read 2 books I borrowed from the library: I read Time Is a Mother by Ocean Vuong. I have heard such great things about Ocean's work so I decided to read his poetry collection. It did not disappoint. I also read Night Sky with Exit Wounds by Ocean Vuong. This was another great collection of poetry. I will say that I did enjoy Time Is a Mother more than I did Night Sky with Exit Wounds. I definitely plan to read more of his work and I have put a hold on his book, On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous.

  • Try 1 new recipe: So this isn't a homemade recipe, but I'm still going to count this since I did have to follow a recipe, but I made some Pillsbury funfetti donuts. I was so excited to use my new donut pan and making donuts was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

  • Drink more water: I did drink more water, but still not as much as I should.

  • Complete at least 2 One Little Word lessons: Yikes! I didn't work on my One Little Word lessons, but I did read through the lessons and prompts. I plan on completing the lessons in one of my Studio Calico travelers notebooks.

  • Work in my sketchbook: I didn't work in my sketchbook as much as I'd like, in fact, I only "worked" on the first page. I always find it intimidating to start working in a new sketchbook or journal. The first page always makes me overthink and it's always a struggle to get started. At least, I finally put something on the first page so I'm calling it a win.

  • Continue to work on my 2023 Project Life album: I did work on my Project Life album. I'm slowly working through the layouts, but I've been having so much fun going through my supplies and putting them to use. Lately, I've been using my kits from Paper Person for most of my layouts. I've also used some supplies from Studio Calico.

July Goals
  • Read and review 2 books I received from Netgalley
  • Read 1 book I borrowed from the library
  • Try 1 new recipe
  • Complete 1 One Little Word lesson
  • Complete at least 1 month in my 2023 Project Life album
  • Work on one of my incomplete December Daily journals

What are your goals for July? How did you do in June?

June 2023 // A List

June, oh, June.

What an interesting month you have been.

Full of fun, summer vibes, and everyday adventures.

You were also a month full of good books and great music.

A month full of little joys.

S'mores, bubbles, ice cream, trips to the pool, indulging in strawberry refreshers galore

Trying new things and loving it.

Documenting all the things

Very few things bothered me this month, but the main thing that did annoy me was the government.

So many things that I could say, but I'll just continue to silently reflect.

Hope is still there, and so that is what I will continue to do...hope.

June, it was nice to rest and relax.

It was much needed and most certainly wanted.

You were a good month, and for that, I am grateful.

So long, June.

Hello July.

Here's to more adventures and savoring summer.

10 Things That Made Me Happy This Week

Happy Friday! Today I'm linking up with Charlotte, Lindsay, and Beth for their weekly grateful and happy list link-up.

1. Target's Back-to-School displays. One of the main things that I love about Back-to-School season is the school supplies and stationery products. I was surprised to see the displays out already, but that did not stop me from taking a peek. I've already printed out the boys' school supply lists and noted a few things I want, so I can't wait to buy some stuff.

2. Apple Music's custom Chill Mix playlist. I have been enjoying listening to my personalized Chill Mix from Apple Music. The playlist is updated weekly, and I've found many new-to-me artists and songs.

3. My donut pan. I finally used my new donut pan, and I love it! I made some donuts using a box mix and am now searching for a good homemade donut recipe. Maybe I'll try to make some red velvet donuts.

4. Summer thunderstorms. I don't know what it is, but something about summer thunderstorms always makes me feel at peace. Which is strange because I'm talking about thunderstorms. Maybe it's how they sometimes just randomly happen and stop suddenly. Or it's the scent of rain after the storm ends. I'm not sure; I just know that I love summer thunderstorms.

5. It's officially summer. Despite summer not being my favorite season, I love celebrating those first few days of summer. In fact, I always enjoy celebrating the first few days of each season.

6. I got a notification that my order from Paper Person is on its way, and I'm so excited.

7. I put a hold on Night Sky with Exit Wounds by Ocean Vuong at my local library, and it's finally ready to be picked up. I can't wait to read it over the weekend.

8. Newk's Chicken Tortilla soup. I bought a big container of this on a rainy day after running errands, and it was perfect. It's one of my favorite things on the menu. 10/10 highly recommend.

9. Decluttering my kitchen. Oh, my goodness. I have no idea what got into me, but I had randomly decided to declutter my kitchen late at night. In the end, I felt so happy, and my kitchen looked so much more organized.

10. Our new bubble machine. This is seriously one of the best things I've bought this year. A friend and coworker of mine recommended it, and it's amazing! The boys, especially my youngest son, have really loved it.
