December 2025 // A List

1. Oh my goodness, December. You came in hot and had me feeling like I was nonstop on the go. You were an even busier month than usual. Full of work events, school events, and personal events. So many appointments. So many celebrations.

2. December was, for the most part, a joyful month. We celebrated Gabriel's birthday. I still can't believe he's 14. The years are going by so fast. It's been amazing watching Gabriel grow.

3. Unfortunately, Gabriel got the flu, and it seems so odd to think that he had the flu on the day of his birthday. Thankfully, the flu didn't hit him so hard, and for the most part, he was his usual self. We ended up switching things up for the celebrations, but we still did our traditional birthday celebrations.

4. Christmas was a bit different this year. Instead of the usual Christmas Eve dinner at Mami's, we decided to have breakfast on Christmas Day. However, since Gabriel was still recovering from the flu and John was feeling a little under the weather, we changed plans again. We decided to have a nice lunch at Mami's on Friday.

5. Staying home for Christmas with just the boys and John was lovely. John and I made a nice breakfast and watched the boys open presents. Then I made a nice charcuterie board for lunch, and we grazed for most of the day. It was a low-key Christmas, and it was perfect.

6. Holiday shopping was weird this year. The month really went by fast because I almost didn't even realize how close Christmas was until about a week or so before the actual holiday. At that point, I hadn't even really made a dent in my list of things to do and buy. Needless to say, I was stressed.

7. As the month and the year come to a close, I have been in a state of reflection.

8. This was an eventful year. There were wonderful moments and some difficult ones. I've accomplished many goals and am steadily working on a few more.

9. It was an excellent month for reading, and I found out that I surpassed my annual reading goal for 2025. My goal was to read 180 books, and I ended up reading 270.

10. I have quite a few hopes and dreams for 2026. I have a few career and creative-related goals for 2026. I'm especially looking forward to seeing what happens in my professional life.

11. As the month and year are coming to a close, I am feeling excited to celebrate my upcoming birthday. There's something about the arrival of the new year and my birthday just a few days later that brings me so much joy and hope.

12. I'm in full planner mode and have already started using my new planner. I am full of ideas. The creative block that I've been dealing with is slowly lifting.

13. So long December. You were a wild ride. So long, 2025, what a year you were.

14. Hello 2026. May this year be a year of growth, success, joy, love, new opportunities, new beginnings, and moving onward.

My 12 Favorite Books of 2025

Happy Monday! For the past few years, I've joined the Goodreads Reading Challenge. At the end of the year, I love seeing how many books I've read and whether I reached my reading goal. As of today, I've read 269 books and surpassed my goal of 180. Some of the books were short stories, poetry collections, fiction, nonfiction, romance, and so much more. I loved reading books by new-to-me authors. Last year, I even shared a post of my 12 favorite books of 2024 (one for each month). So, I thought it'd be fun to do it again this year.

Here are my 12 favorite reads of 2025. Also, please feel free to share your favorite books in the comments. I'd love to add some new ones to my never-ending TBR list.

So Late in the Day by Claire Keegan

I absolutely devoured this book! Claire Keegan was a new-to-me author, and I look forward to reading more of her work. So Late in the Day is a collection of three short stories about love, lust, betrayal, and misogyny. The three stories included are "So Late in the Day", "The Long and Painful Death", and "Antarctica". My favorite story in the collection is "Antarctica," which is about a married woman who goes out of town in an attempt to have an affair. This was a chilling and creepy story that was well-written.

The Bookstore Sisters by Alice Hoffman

Alice Hoffman's short story about family, love, and the past was a fantastic read. The story follows Isabel Gibson, a woman who has been estranged from her sister, Sophie, and her hometown of Brinkley's Island, Maine. After receiving a letter in the mail, Isabel decides to return home to see her sister and their family's bookstore, which is on the brink of bankruptcy. I highly recommend reading the rest of this series; it's great.

Banned Together by Ashley Hope Perez

This was a powerful read. Banned Together is a YA anthology filled with various genres, such as memoir, poetry, essays, fiction, and illustrations/comics that discuss book bans and encourage readers to fight back against book bans. This is a great book to read, especially in today's times. The book even includes a list of banned books and other useful resources.

The Deal of a Lifetime by Fredrik Backman

This is not the first book I've read by Fredrik Backman, but this novella may be my favorite work of his. The Deal of a Lifetime follows a father and son who haven't seen each other in years. The father tells his son the story of how he killed someone. I don't want to give too much away, but I'd advise bringing some tissues, as you may find yourself crying.

The New Book by Nikki Giovanni

This was an incredible collection of poems, letters, and prose drawn from Nikki Giovanni's life. It was fascinating to read about her life and experiences. There were so many interesting pieces in this collection. One thing that surprised me was Nikki Giovanni's connection to the Virginia Tech shooting. Since this was her posthumous collection, I have added several other books by her to my TBR list.

Letters From Gaza by Mahmoud Alshaer and Mohammed Al-Zaqzooq

This was a powerful and heartbreaking read. It took me a very long time to finish this book because it was so heavy. It's not often a book makes me tear up, but this one did. Letters from Gaza is a collection of prose, poems, and reflections that were written in real-time in the Gaza Strip during the ongoing genocide. I still find myself thinking about this book and the writers. It was heartbreaking to read that some of the writers included in this collection are missing or have been confirmed killed.

The People's Project by Saeed Jones and Maggie Smith

I will absolutely read anything Maggie Smith writes. I was delighted to find out she was writing a new book and collaborating with Saeed Jones. The People's Project is an incredible anthology of poems, essays, and art by twenty-six authors on living in today's world. I especially loved the works by Aubrey Hirsch, Patricia Smith, Kiese Laymon, Abi Maxwell, Marlon James, and Mira Jacob.

Falling in Vermont by Elise Kennedy

This was a cozy little read about a chef and food blogger named Sophie and a widowed farmer named Blake. After struggling with coming up with recipes for her latest cookbook, Sophie decides to rent a cottage owned by Blake. However, after a mishap with a few raccoons and the collapse of the cottage's roof, Sophie finds herself staying at Blake's home. Of course, Sophie and Blake have chemistry, but Blake doesn't want to risk falling for Sophie, especially since she doesn't live in town and he needs/wants to focus on his failing pumpkin patch. Falling in Vermont was such a sweet, cozy, and at times spicy read that truly was perfect for fall.

The Little Book of Winter Brittany Viklund

When I learned that Brittany had written a book, I was so excited to read it. The Little Book of Winter was such a fun, cozy read. I read this book during the summer-to-fall seasonal transition, which may seem a bit early for a winter-themed read, but it was perfect. The Little Book of Winter is filled with ideas and activities to enjoy during the winter season. I loved the recipes and plan to try a few. I even used some of the tips and activities included in the book during the fall season, since many could be easily adapted for that time. I plan to revisit this book now that we are in winter.

Mistletoe Meet Cute by Bella Matthews

I absolutely loved this book! The story follows Camden Monroe, a football player and single father, who needs a nanny for his daughter. Holly Chase, Camden's teammate's sister, accepts the nanny position as a temporary job. Of course, they both end up falling for each other. This was such a fun read, and I love that the story included text messages. The side characters were also interesting. I plan to read the rest of the books set in the Kroyden Hills.

I Remember Nothing by Nora Ephron

How in the world is it possible that I hadn't read a book by Nora Ephron until this year? I was also shocked to learn that Nora Ephron was the writer and director of numerous beloved romantic comedies. Please, don't judge me. I Remember Nothing was a delightful read. I loved learning about Ephron's life, from her childhood and memories of her parents' dinner parties to her first job in a mailroom at Newsweek. What made me want to read this book was stumbling upon Ephron's lists of what she would and wouldn't miss. Both lists appear at the end of the book.

See One, Do One, Teach One: The Art of Becoming a Doctor by Grace Farris

I am a big fan of Grace Farris's work, so when I found out she had written another book, I was so excited. I'm so grateful to have received an eARC from NetGalley.

See One, Do One, Teach One follows Grace's journey through medical school and residency as she navigates her personal life. The comics were great and paired well with her story. It was incredibly interesting to read and also see the steps involved in becoming a doctor. There were some heartbreaking moments, especially when the book touched on patient deaths. However, the way Grace wrote this sensitive topic was thoughtful, powerful, and beautiful.

If You and I Had Coffee

If you and I had coffee...

We'd go to one of our favorite local coffee shops. We'd order a couple of seasonal drinks and a couple of pastries. Maybe even buy a few coffee treats to take home... maybe some ground coffee blends or syrups?

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that this month was a lot. It was incredibly busy, and a few unexpected things happened. December truly had its highs and lows. I'll start with the highs. We celebrated Gabriel's birthday. I can't believe my second-born is fourteen! What an honor it's been to watch him grow. We also got our dryer fixed for free (thank goodness for warranties!). We went to see the Christmas tree lighting in our city. I visited a few holiday markets. We indulged in holiday treats.  I read a few good books. John and I went to Raphael's class holiday party. Overall, there were more highs than lows. There were only two things that came to mind when I thought of the lows for December. The first being that Gabriel got the flu (definitely had it on his birthday, unbeknownst to us), but thankfully, it didn't really hit him hard. The other stressful thing was when our dryer suddenly stopped working. I'll say it again, thank goodness for warranties. I was really hoping we wouldn't have to shop for a new dryer.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that Christmas this year was very low-key, and honestly, I really liked it. Mami and I decided to switch it up this year and have a nice breakfast spread on Christmas Day instead of dinner on Christmas Eve. However, since Gabriel was still recovering from the flu and John was feeling a little under the weather, we had to cancel. We ended up going to Mami's on Friday and had a lovely brunch. We all slept in a little longer than usual on Christmas Day. Once we all woke up, we opened presents. Then John and I made breakfast while the boys looked through their presents and stockings. Throughout the day, we all grazed. I made a charcuterie board for lunch. I was even able to sneak in a nap. It was a wonderful Christmas.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I think I finally found my word (or maybe the word found me?) for 2026. I won't reveal it just yet, as I want to make sure this word truly sticks with me. As for documenting my word, I plan to use the prompts from Ali Edwards' 2025 One Little Word course since I didn't finish it this year. I also plan to use many of the One Little Word supplies I already have. I'm hoping to use most of my current supplies for most, if not all, of the projects I plan to complete in 2026.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I'm excited for 2026. I'm looking forward to taking the next steps in my career. I'm looking forward to my birthday, which is a little over a week away. I have so many hopes for 2026, and I'm just excited to see how this new year turns out. May this be a year of peace, fun adventures, and good fortune.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you I'm so glad we were able to catch up before the month and the year ended. We definitely cut it incredibly close. I hope you enjoy the last few days of December. I hope you have a wonderful New Year. I hope you are surrounded by love, luck, prosperity, and happiness. May 2026 be a kind year to you. See you next year!

What would you tell me?

Just Five Things

1. Winter Break has started, and I'm excited! I'm looking forward to celebrating the holidays. I can't wait to watch holiday movies, play a few board games, spend time with my family, drink a ridiculous amount of hot chocolate, and sneak a nap or two. The only "non-fun" traditional thing on my to-do list is to declutter and donate a lot of stuff before the New Year. We've already started and have a couple of boxes ready to be donated. I'm actually really excited to get rid of a lot of stuff. Do you declutter before the New Year, or do you have any goals you hope to accomplish before the New Year?

2. Have you read The Legend of the Christmas Witch by Dan Murphy and Aubrey Plaza? I just finished this book and am now reading the second, The Return of the Christmas Witch. This is such a fun holiday book series. The Christmas Witch is Santa Claus's twin sister. When they are children, they are separated and raised by other people. Kristtōrn, the Christmas Witch, is raised by a witch from the woods. Eventually, Kristtōrn grows up and tries to find her brother. I don't want to give too much of the story away, but the first book was fantastic, and I'm really enjoying the second as well.

3. The last week before winter break was very eventful. We celebrated Gabriel's birthday. Even though his birthday was in the middle of the week, we still celebrated with cake, food, and gifts. We planned to celebrate some more over the weekend, but unfortunately, Gabriel caught the flu. So winter break started a day earlier for us. Thankfully, it didn't really hit him hard, and for the most part, he's been acting his usual self. However, he's still recovering. We're hoping that he's clear by Christmas Day.

4. I was really hoping that this year, I'd be done with Christmas shopping and errands no later than the middle of December, but I'm still not done. I'm really cutting it super close this year, and I'm not liking it at all. To be fair, a few unexpected things happened this month, and honestly, this month went by so fast (and it was incredibly busy) that I didn't even realize how close we were to winter break and Christmas. The days really blurred together this month. Thankfully, I don't have much left to do, and I'm really hoping to be done with everything else by tomorrow.

5. Winter Solstice was wonderful. Raphael and I read Susan Cooper's The Shortest Day and loved it. I also lit several candles. I even took an afternoon nap. I made a big batch of chicken-and-rice soup with lots of veggies. It was such a cozy day, which I loved.

What have you been up to?

Winter 2025 Bucket List

Happy Sunday and Happy First Day of Winter! Winter is officially here, and I'm a little excited. Christmas is just four days away. Just like last year, I'm excited about winter this year...maybe even more so. It's Capricorn season, and I'm looking forward to celebrating my birthday next month.

I plan to celebrate the winter solstice by lighting a candle, using a simmer pot kit, going for a walk in the neighborhood, or on the Silver Comet Trail. I also plan to read The Shortest Day by Susan Cooper with Raphael and make hot chocolate for John, the boys, and me.

One tradition I have consistently kept is making a bucket list at the start of every season. It's always fun to make one, and I love documenting my list. As always, I share my list here. Many of the things on my bucket list are things I usually do (traditions, rituals, etc.) or things I keep wanting to do but haven't done. However, there are a few new things on my list. 10 Things That Made Me Happy This Week

Happy Friday! It was a whirlwind of a week, but now it's the start of winter break! The weekend is here, and it's time for another happy and grateful list.

1. Pushkin the Christmas Gnome by Brad Montague was such a sweet short story.

2. It's been a joy crossing off things on my holiday list. I'm so close to finishing everything I need to do for the holidays. This week was such a whirlwind. It's going to be so nice to cross the final thing on my list.

3. We went to Raphael's class holiday party and had a great time. We played games and made a few arts-and-crafts projects. Raphael decorated a pine cone, and it turned out really cute. He even added some tiny ornaments.

4. I tried a cookies and cream hot chocolate from Starbucks (don't judge me, please) and it was actually pretty good. If you want to order one, just ask for four pumps of white mocha sauce and cookie crumble topping.

6. Currently reading (and absolutely loving): See One, Do One, Teach One by Grace Farris.

7. We celebrated Gabriel's birthday and had a good time. Even though his birthday was in the middle of the week, we still did our traditional birthday rituals. We were planning to celebrate more over the weekend, but unfortunately, Gabriel has the flu. Thankfully, today is the last day of school before we officially start winter break, so he'll be resting at home. Overall, he's doing fine, and I'm so grateful for that.

9. Super random: My esthetician and I had such a great conversation during my appointment. The conversation left me feeling deeply inspired, and it was also great to hear someone else's perspective on life.

10. Winter break has officially started, and I'm so excited!

10 Things That Made Me Happy This Week

Happy Saturday! This week was a busy and somewhat stressful one. But overall, it was a pretty decent week. Side note: I only realized more than halfway through the week that we are already in the double digits for the month. I can't believe that in just a couple of days, we will be halfway through December. Although it's a busy time of year, I love that I am still keeping up with my happy and grateful list reflection. So far, the weekend is going pretty well, and I hope yours is a good one too.

1. We finally bought our new family ornament. We actually bought three of them, and we love them. We're big fans of The Nightmare Before Christmas and saw a few ornaments related to the movie. We ended up buying a Jack Skellington and a Zero ornament. We also purchased a Pikachu ornament

2. Currently loving: Whole Foods Market Organic Honeycrisp Apple Juice. Seriously, this is delicious. 10/10 highly recommend.

3. I finished reading The Legend of the Christmas Witch by Dan Murphy and Aubrey Plaza. I absolutely loved this book and am looking forward to reading The Return of the Christmas Witch.

6. I bought a 25-day book lover's advent calendar and absolutely love it. Although I bought this calendar on the 12th of the month, it's been fun checking out the little surprises from the previous day. It actually has useful items. I plan to use some of the items in my sketchbook/journal.

7. I've been preparing for Gabriel's upcoming birthday, and I'm so excited to celebrate his day.

8. I had my eye on Sephora's Holy Sheet Set and was excited to see that there was a deal going on for 30% off all Sephora Collection items. I plan to put this in my stocking. By the way, the sale ends on December 14, so if you've been thinking about making a purchase, now is a good time.

9. I've been thinking about what my word for 2026 will be. For the past couple of days, one word has been making its way in, but I'm not sure whether I should commit to it. This year, I didn't really work on documenting my word for the year, but I'm glad that I still reflected on it off and on throughout the year.

10. I'm so excited that winter break officially begins this upcoming Friday afternoon. I'm so ready to have the next two weeks off, and I'm excited to celebrate the holidays with my family.

10 Things That Made Me Happy This Week

Happy Sunday! It's time to share my happy and grateful list. Can you believe that the first week of December is basically over? Overall, this week has been pretty great and also quite productive. What are some things that made you happy or grateful this week?

1. It's finally December! I love that the first day of December fell on a Monday. It was a nice start to the month and a fresh start to the week.

2. We went to our city's Christmas Tree lighting, and we had a great time. This is one of my favorite family traditions. The decorations throughout the downtown square and surrounding area are gorgeous, especially at night, of course.

3. After coming home from the Christmas Tree lighting, we finally put up our Christmas tree at home. We still need to buy a new ornament, so I'm hoping we can find one this upcoming week. Maybe we'll get a couple of new ones instead of just one.

4. I went to the Smyrna Handmade Holiday Market and had a blast. I loved seeing all the small businesses and had fun chatting with some of my favorite local shop owners.

5. I went to the soft opening of Common Threads Boutique, which is at the exact location as a previous boutique (and also one of my favorites), Blue Bird Lane Boutique, that recently closed down. I was delighted to see that the new owners are former employees of Blue Bird Lane Boutique.

6. Have you heard of food forests? I recently learned about food forests and was surprised to learn about the Urban Food Forest at Browns Mill. Are there any food forests in your state?

7. A song on repeat: Trust by Sophie Lowe

8. I celebrated December's arrival with Nothing Bundt Cakes' newest pop-up flavor, Coconut Cream Snowflake. And it is so good!

9. I read an advance copy of Cristina Ergunay's Central Park: Adventures Through the Seasons, and I loved it! I was hit with a heavy dose of childhood nostalgia, and now I want to go back to New York to visit.

10. I've been reading Brittany Viklund's 12 Days of Stackmas series on her newsletter, Brittany's Notebook. I love her Advent calendar and have enjoyed reading her book recommendations and thrifting tips.

December Goals

Happy Monday and first day of December! I cannot believe that it's already December. This year has truly flown by, especially the last few months. Although I'm sad that fall will be over soon and winter will arrive in just a couple of weeks, I'm looking forward to the holidays. I'm also looking forward to winter.

As always, November was a very busy month. In fact, it seemed like November was busier than usual. It was a month full of events, celebrations, and spending time with family. We went to Raphael's Thanksgiving feast at his school, celebrated Vivi's first birthday, and went to Mami's house for Thanksgiving.

We had another low-key Thanksgiving, and honestly, it was perfect. We spent the morning resting and relaxing until it was time to go over to Mami's.

The next day, I went shopping, and I'm so happy I stuck to the things on my list. I'm really trying to be more intentional with my shopping, especially for this holiday season. I'm happy to report that it's going really well. I also went shopping on Small Business Saturday and was so excited to shop at my favorite local businesses. I even went to a new-to-us pizza spot and really enjoyed their food.

This month, I'm looking forward to a few events in my city. I'm looking forward to a few school and holiday events. I can't wait to check out the Kris Kringle Market after the Christmas tree lighting. I can't wait for the holidays and am looking forward to watching so many holiday movies and shows.

This month, I'm going to give myself grace. I want to focus on enjoying this month, crossing things off my list, enjoying the days leading up to the holidays, and welcoming winter with open arms. I'm still going to keep working on my monthly goals. However, if I don't accomplish any of them or even try to work on them, then I'm not going to give myself a hard time about it.

Since I mentioned monthly goals, let's recap my November goals and check out my new goals for December.

Recap of November Goals

  • Read 2 books I received from NetGalley: I didn't finish the two books I was reading, but I am very close. I should be done with at least one of them by the end of the first week of December.
  • Participate in Exhale's November blog hop: I didn't participate this month. I had a few ideas, but couldn't decide on a format for my piece. I'm hoping to work on this prompt in December, since I think it would work for this month and the winter season.
  • Try 1 new recipe: I tried a chicken nacho recipe and added a few things to make it my own. It turned out surprisingly well. I love how quick and easy it was to make. The kids loved it, and I plan to add it to our go-to lunch/dinner rotation.
  • Make 1 scrapbook/Project Life layout: I actually forgot about this goal until the last day of November. Honestly, my excuse is I was swamped in November, and I'm still dealing with this awful creative rut.
  • Work on the latest round of the Here: Five Things course: I worked on a couple of the prompts, but did not finish. I may try to complete them in December. I'm really hoping that December is the month that my creative rut subsides.

December Goals
  • Read 3 books I borrowed from the library
  • Read 1 book I received from NetGalley
  • Participate in Exhale's December blog hop
  • Try 2 new recipes
  • Make 2 scrapbook/Project Life layouts
  • Participate in Jo Blaker's Winter Trees daily drawing challenge
  • Work in my sketchbook/journal

What are your goals for December? How did you do in November?

November 2025 // A List

1. Well, my goodness, November! If October was a whirlwind, I don't even know how to describe you. Sure, there were some slow days, but overall, I feel like you arrived, I blinked, and now it's time for you to go.

2. The first week of November is always a strange one. I'm usually still on a Halloween kick with bits of Christmas excitement mixed in. And a dash of Thanksgiving anticipation.

3. The weather gave me whiplash. Some days were unseasonably warm, and then the next day, winter popped by to say hello. The past few days have been cold (I'm talking high 20s and 30s in the mornings), but a bit warmer in the afternoons. I wish it would just stay one weather. It's always tricky deciding what to wear in the morning because I wonder whether to wear a coat or a sweater.

4. I started lighting a candle every night in November. I absolutely love it. I've even indulged in quite a few candlelight baths. It's absolutely relaxing and a new favorite part of my self-care routine.

5. Thanksgiving was full of celebrations. We went to Raphael's Thanksgiving feast at school and had a blast. Raphael was so excited to show us his desk and introduce us to his friends.

6. We also celebrated Vivi's first birthday. I can't believe she's a year old now! I remember holding her when she was still an infant.

7. Thanksgiving was a success. We went to Mami's for dinner. I love that Mami already had her Christmas decorations out and on display. She did a fantastic job decorating her home.

8. I'm trying to be intentional with shopping during the holiday season. So even though I don't usually get up early on Black Friday, I did this year. I was able to buy a few things we needed and a few gifts here and there. I also did a bit more shopping on Small Business Saturday. I really want to support more local businesses, and I'm happy to say I found quite a few gifts made or sold by local shops.

9. There is nothing like a moody sky in November.

10. A song on repeat: Tell Ur Girlfriend by Lay Bankz

11. November was a good month for reading. I read so many great books. I read a mix of fall/Halloween books, Christmas books, nonfiction, romance, essay collections, and children's books.

12. I've been on a Humans of New York kick. I finished reading Humans of New York a couple of days ago. Now I'm reading Human of New York: Stories. Next up will be Humans. I put Dear New York on hold at my library.

13. We need to put our Christmas decorations up. I'm hoping to put the tree up by December 1st.

14. I loved seeing the holiday decorations in our city's downtown square. I can't wait to see them at night, and I'm looking forward to the Christmas tree lighting.

15. We tried a new-to-us pizza spot, Ruby's Sourdough Pizza, and loved it. 10/10 highly recommend.

16. The state of the country is still worrying and angering me. Every day, it's something new, and yet I'm also not surprised.

17. My creative rut is still here, but I've found some inspiration in a few things. I'm hoping this means I will be working on a few projects, or at least my sketchbook/journal, in December. I'm planning to join a daily challenge in December, and I'm looking forward to it. I'm giving myself grace, and if I miss a few days or choose not to complete a few prompts that I'm not into, then that's ok.

18. Thanksgiving Break was a much-needed, much-wanted, and much-appreciated week off. I'm sad that it's almost over. However, I feel more rested and at ease.

19. So long, November. You were a busy month, but I'm so grateful for the slow, cozy days that were sprinkled in here and there. Oh, December. I already know it's going to be a busier month than November. Here's to a month full of joy, peace, hope, family, and festive cheer. May December be a month full of magic.

If You and I Had Coffee

If you and I had coffee...

We'd meet up at one of our favorite coffee shops that's near the grocery store. It's the day before Thanksgiving, so we'll take our drinks to go, brave the crowd at the grocery store, and buy the last-minute things we forgot to buy earlier in the week.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving. It'll be nice to spend time with family, eat good food, and watch the Thanksgiving Day parade. I'm also looking forward to playing board games, reading a good book, and maybe (hopefully) taking a nap.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I can't believe November is almost over. This month flew by even faster than October. I'm excited for December. I already know December is going to be another busy month. I just looked at my calendar, and my jaw dropped at all the events, appointments, and meetings I have already scheduled. I am already looking forward to our two-week holiday break. It is very much deserved.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I'm still dealing with this creative rut. The main issue is that I'm having trouble deciding which journal/notebook to use. It seems like every time I sit down to make something and look at several new notebooks and journals, I end up unable to pick which one to use. The sketchbook is either too big or too small. Or it doesn't have the right paper. I've been thinking of using my Get Messy Art Journal, and it would be a perfect sketchbook, but I wish it were smaller. Then I think about using a Moleskine sketchbook or a watercolor sketchbook, but I can't decide which paper to use. I've also been unable to decide whether to use a landscape or portrait sketchbook. Every time I think I've made my decision, I end up changing my mind, and then I get frustrated.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I can't wait to put up our Christmas tree and Christmas lights. I'm also looking forward to buying a new ornament for the tree. This is one of my favorite family traditions. We'll visit a few of our favorite small businesses to check out the ornaments. I'm also really excited to check out the Kris Kringle Market during our city's Christmas tree lighting. A few of my favorite vendors and small businesses will have their booths set up. I can't wait.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I have been devouring Terry's Chocolate Snowballs. These are so good. I've tried the original Terry's Chocolate Orange, and it's pretty good too. I've also been drinking a lot of hot chocolate, and sometimes I'll add a piece of chocolate like Ghirardelli squares or even a slice of Terry's chocolate to it. 10/10 highly recommend.

What would you tell me?

Until next time...

Just Five Things

1. We're on Thanksgiving Break, and this week off work is much-needed. I feel like I've been non-stop busy since October. I haven't really posted much here except for my Happy and Grateful lists. I'm hoping to write more soon. It seems my creative rut is slowly creeping into my writing, and I'm not happy about it. Or maybe it's just my body and mind telling me that I need to rest. Either way, I've been giving myself grace, and surprisingly, I'm not too stressed about not creating much recently, but I do wish this creative rut would just go away. I think I just really want to know what is causing my creative rut.

2. I'm in my candle era. I'm pretty sure I've mentioned this before, but I have so many unused candles. However, lately, I've been lighting a candle every night, and it's been such a balm to my soul. It's a new part of my self-care routine, and I love it.

3. I saw this really cool DIY Drippy Candle Plate, and now I want to try to make one. It would look really great on our dining room table. Even though the video lists this DIY for Fall, I think it would be perfect for winter too.

4. I went grocery shopping with Mami over the weekend to prepare for our Thanksgiving feast, and I was hit with a heavy dose of nostalgia. It may seem silly, but it really warmed my heart to do this simple thing with Mami. It reminded me of my childhood.

5. I'm currently reading several books. I'm still on a Halloween kick, so some of the books are Halloween-themed. However, I'm also reading Christmas-themed books, too. I'm still slowly reading Mary Oliver's Little Alleluias, and so far I'm enjoying it. I've been reading a few poems and some prose before bed. It's been a good way to wind down.

What have you been up to?

10 Things That Made Me Happy This Week

Happy Saturday! Today I'm sharing my happy and grateful list. It was a pretty great week. I've read, listened, and watched so many good things. We had a few fun events happen, too. Also, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas (even though Thanksgiving hasn't arrived yet). What are some things that made you happy or grateful this week?

1. It was a busy week, but a highlight of the week was going to Raphael's Thanksgiving Feast at his school. It was nice to join his class and check out the work he's been doing. He was so excited to show us his drawings that he had made with one of his friends.

2. I watched The Nun II, and now I want to do a Conjuring series rewatch. #spookyseasonforever

4. A Frozen Peppermint Hot Chocolate. A bit sweet, but so delicious.

7. I received a paperback copy of Cleo Wade's Remember Love from Random House, and I'm so happy to read this new version of the book. I'm excited to check out the annotations. I remember when I first read the book, I absolutely devoured it.

8. I bought these amazing joggers from Old Navy. The name, SoComfy, suits these joggers because they really are comfy and so soft. I also bought a couple of Old Navy's Dynamic Fleece Jogger Sweatpants. These sweatpants are a great alternative to their SleekTech Cargo Joggers. They are perfect for colder weather and for staying indoors, too.

10. We're officially on Thanksgiving Break, and I am so grateful to have the week off work. I can't wait to spend time with my family, eat good food, watch some fun holiday movies, and listen to Christmas music.

10 Things That Made Me Happy This Week

Happy Sunday! Today I'm sharing my happy and grateful list. With the current state of the country (and the world), I believe it's important to remember the things that make us happy and grateful. For me, this weekly ritual is an essential part of my self-care. Also, it's nice to balance out the good and the not-so-great.

1. I don't usually get excited about movies, but I just saw the teaser trailer for The Devil Wears Prada 2, and I can't wait to watch it!

2. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! I've already asked the boys what they would like for Christmas, and I've been making all the lists. We are planning to shop for a new holiday ornament (love this tradition!). I'm also planning to go through all my holiday clothes and accessories to start preparing for my staff's holiday spirit dress-up days.

3. I absolutely love the idea of mothering myself. This was such a good reminder

4. A song on repeat: Hurricane by The Aces

6. I finished reading I Remember Nothing by Nora Ephron and absolutely loved it. Now I'm on a Nora Ephron kick and just picked up a copy of I Feel Bad About My Neck: And Other Thoughts on Being a Woman.

7. On Saturday, I went to The Read Shop and tried their Gingerbread Latte. It was so delicious. I also stopped by my new go-to bakery, McEntyre's Bakery, and bought some thumbprint cookies, gingerbread men cookies, ginger bears cookies, and a strawberry cream cheese croissant. We devoured the thumbprint cookies. I may have to start making these at home, especially since it's cookie season. For the holiday season, I may try to make a different type of cookie (maybe a cake or some pastry) every week.

8. We celebrated my baby niece, Vivi's, first birthday and we all had a blast. It was great spending time with my family and seeing my nieces and nephews. I say this every time, but they are growing so much. I can't believe that my oldest nephew will be an adult next year. And now my youngest niece is a year old!

9. Old Navy's Super Cash began over the weekend, and I definitely took advantage of all the sales. The boys needed some new cold-weather clothes (they are growing so fast). I also have my eye on a few pants and joggers for myself.

10. We only have five more days before Thanksgiving Break begins, and I'm so excited. I'm ready to spend time with family, eat delicious food, watch a couple of movies or shows, play some board games, and rest.

What made you happy this week?

10 Things That Made Me Happy This Week

Happy Saturday! Today I'm linking up with Charlotte for a weekly happy and grateful list link up.

1. I lit my first candle for the fall/winter season, and it brought me so much joy. In fact, I can't remember the last time I lit a candle besides a birthday candle. I have all these candles that I either bought or received as gifts, but have yet to light them. This season, I'm in my candle era, and I plan to light a candle every evening.

2. I recently learned about Fridge Finder, which is a website/app that allows people to find community fridges that contain free food in New York. I think it would be so cool to have this all over the country.

3. John and I played a few rounds of Guess Who? and tried to teach Raphael how to play the game. I hadn't played Guess Who? in years, and it was so exciting to play it again. In fact, we (mainly me) haven't played many other board games in a while, but we plan to change that. There's just something about playing board games during fall and winter that soothes me.

4. A song on repeat: Golden Brown x Love Story (Slowed and Reverb). I really like this mashup.

7. I returned a stack of library books and can't wait until the next batch of books I've placed on hold is ready to be picked up. One of the books I plan to read next is I Remember Nothing by Nora Ephron.

8. On the wishlist: This Speckled Ceramic Stubby Candle Holder. Also, this Brass Garland Golden Leaf Garland would look perfect around the candle holder. Shout out to Joanna Goddard of Cup of Jo and Big Salad for recommending this on The Good Trade's newsletter

9. The results of the November 4, 2025, elections gave me some hope. May people continue to ensure their voices are heard and continue to vote in every election.

10. I'm so glad it's the weekend, and it's going to be a much-needed, laid-back weekend, which I'm grateful for.

November Goals

Happy Wednesday! Can you believe we're already a few days into November? October flew by, and November might do the same.

October was a fun-filled and extremely busy month. We attended a couple of festivals, including the Spooky Festival, the Smyrna Birthday Celebration, and the Crafts and Drafts Festival. We celebrated Jaileny's birthday, and I got to see my niece and my nephew. We also went to the last few farmers' markets before the farmers' market season ended. I indulged in all the treats and baked goods. I bought half gallons of fresh apple cider and apples every week. I tried a new-to-me bakery, McEntyre's Bakery, and fell in love with their seasonal cookies. The apple bread was also delicious. I've been listening to Florence + the Machine's Everybody Scream on repeat. I love that it was released on Halloween. We carved our pumpkin kind of late in the month (literally days before Halloween), and I loved the design John carved. I was thrilled that Halloween fell on a Friday. We handed out candy to some trick-or-treaters, and then we took the boys out to trick-or-treat. Overall, October was a dream.

In November, I'm hoping for a slower month. I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving Break and spending time with my family. I'm looking forward to watching the Thanksgiving Day parade. I'm looking forward to celebrating my niece's first birthday. I'm looking forward to preparing for Christmas. Although I mentioned several events in that list, I'm really hoping for more days of rest and relaxation. I'm looking forward to cozy days and staying at home.

I'm sure there will be some busy days and some weeks in November, so I'm going to give myself some grace, just as I did in October, when it comes to my monthly goals. I still set some goals, as I love this monthly ritual, but it's okay if I don't complete any or if I forget about them.

Now that I've mentioned goals, let's have a quick recap of my October Goals and take a look at my new goals for November.

Recap of October Goals
  • Read 1 book I borrowed from the library: I read a bunch of books I borrowed from the library. Yes, many of them were books for Raphael, but I'm still counting them. We read a ton of Halloween-themed books, and it was perfect.
  • Read 2 books I received from NetGalley: I read a few books I received from NetGalley, but I only finished reading one of them. I finished reading Pocket Bear by Katherine Applegate, which was a delightful read.
  • Participate in Exhale's October blog hop: Unfortunately, I didn't work on the prompt for the blog hop. By the time I remembered the blog hop, the deadline was so close, and I didn't want to stress much about submitting something. I still plan to work on the prompts that I missed, and I may share a few on the blog.
  • Work in my sketchbook/journal: Once again, I did not work in any of my sketchbooks or journals. I keep getting stuck on which journal to use, and it's been extremely frustrating.
  • Make 1 scrapbook/Project Life layout: I completely forgot to work on some layouts, but to be fair, I didn't have the necessary photos to complete the layouts I wanted. However, I placed a large order of photos, which I'm hoping will arrive within the next week or so. I'm itching to make a couple of 6x8 layouts, and I'd like to use some in a layout and a traveler's notebook.
  • Try 2 new recipes: I stuck to our go-to recipes and dishes this month. I honestly forgot about this goal.

November Goals
  • Read 2 books I borrowed from the library
  • Read 2 books I received from NetGalley
  • Participate in Exhale's November blog hop
  • Try 1 new recipe
  • Make 1 scrapbook/Project Life layout
  • Work on the latest round of Here: Five Things ecourse

What are your goals for November? How did you do in October?

Thanks for visiting!

Until next time...

October 2025 // A List

1. Oh my goodness, October! You came in like a whirlwind and left rather quickly. However, you were full of good times and good vibes. October, you were a dream as always.

2. We did our usual fall traditions. We went to three different festivals and had a blast. We ate what seemed to be endless amounts of fried Oreos and other treats.

3. Fall most certainly made itself known. The weather got so much cooler, and we had to bring out our sweaters and thick jackets (and eventually the boys' coats). The chill in the air was much appreciated by me.

4. Weekly fresh apple cider and Honeycrisp apples were a delight. The best part: the apple cider and apples came from a great orchard, and it was nice to support a small, local business and farm.

5. My favorite book of the month was surprisingly a Christmas-themed book called Mistletoe Meet Cute by Bella Matthews

6. On repeat: Florence + the Machine's latest album, Everybody Scream.

7. Also on repeat: Tame Impala's album, Deadbeat.

8. Trick-or-treating was a success! We handed out candy to some trick-or-treaters, then set out the rest of the candy outside while we took the boys to go trick-or-treating. The boys came home with a big haul, and we arrived to find a couple of pieces of candy left from our container.

9. Christmas displays are now in stores, and it's been fun checking out some new mugs and other seasonal goods. I'm especially excited for some new Christmas and winter decor.

10. I'm still watching the second season of With Love, Meghan.

11. We (mainly John) carved our pumpkin late into the month. We finally got it done just a few days before Halloween, which is the latest that I can remember ever getting our pumpkin carved.

12. The state of the country is still worrying and angering me. It's just a lot going on. I took advantage of early voting and made sure my voice was heard by casting my vote early.

13. I signed up for the latest round of Here: Five Things, and I was so excited to have a creative project to work on in November.

14. I read so many great newsletters on Substack. My love for Substack continues to grow.

15. October, I'm sad to see you go. You really were a dream. Hello, November. I'm so excited for this new month. May it be filled with cozy days full of rest, with fun events and activities sprinkled throughout.

10 Things That Made Me Happy This Week

Happy Saturday! Today I'm linking up with Charlotte, Lindsay, and Beth for their weekly happy and grateful list link up.

1. We (mainly John, with a bit of help from Raphael) carved our pumpkin just a few days before Halloween. It was fun to watch, and I love how it turned out.

2. I made sure my voice was heard and voted on Tuesday. I was surprised that so many people didn't realize there were two elections taking place in our county. Please, please, please make sure you go vote.

3. The New York Times' games for Halloween were so fun. I loved that the game Connections used images instead of words/phrases. It was a nice change.

4. An album on repeat: Everybody Scream. I absolutely love that it was released on Halloween.

5. This dressy top is so cute and would be perfect for holiday events. It's also available in black and red.

6. I just finished reading The Devil by Michelle Heard. It's the fifth book in the Mafia Empire series, and it's the first book I've read from the series. Beware of triggers

7. This made me cackle. "The leaves are dead". I can't.

9. Halloween. We got to hand out candy, and I was so excited to see all the different costumes. The boys, especially Raphael, had a blast trick-or-treating. I loved seeing all the Halloween decorations.

10. Crumbl just announced Martha Stewart's Crumbl menu, and I'm so excited!

What made you happy this week?

Thanks for visiting!

Until next time...

If You and I Had Coffee

If you and I had coffee...

We'd meet up at one of our go-to coffee shops near a few of our favorite shops. I definitely plan to order a seasonal latte and pastry. We'd stay indoors since it's cold and has been raining for most of the week. If the rain lets up, maybe we'll stop by a few shops after enjoying our drinks and pastries.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I'm so excited for Halloween! I can't wait to take the kids trick-or-treating and hand out candy to trick-or-treaters as well. I'm looking forward to Florence + the Machine's album, Everybody Scream which will be released on Halloween.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I'm starting to get in the holiday/Christmas spirit. I'm already thinking about how I want to decorate our home for Christmas. I even started reading holiday-themed books. I recently finished reading Mistletoe Meet Cute by Bella Matthews and absolutely loved it. Then I found out there will be an author signing at one of my favorite local bookstores, Sincerely Yours Bookstore, featuring Bella Matthews and S.J. Sylvis. I've never been to an author signing, but I think I may go to that one.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that this month was a fun-filled month. We went to a couple of festivals, like the Spooky Festival and Crafts & Drafts Festival. We also went to our city's birthday celebration. We went to the farmer's market almost every week. I was a bit sad when we went to the last farmers' market of the season. However, I am looking forward to the holiday market pop-ups. We celebrated my little sister's birthday, and I was so excited to see my niece and my nephew. They have grown so much. Gabriel received an honor roll award from school, and we're so proud of him. Raphael and Michael are also doing well in school. Overall, October has been such a fantastic month, and I'm so grateful for that.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I hope everyone is exercising their right to vote. I took advantage of early voting and went immediately after I got off work. It didn't take long at all. I was surprised that many people didn't realize there were two elections in our county, only two weeks apart. So this is your friendly reminder to go vote. Also, please, please, please make sure to research your candidates and go vote. Make your voice heard.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I'm so glad we were able to catch up this month. It's been an incredibly busy month. October is almost over, and I was genuinely worried that we wouldn't be able to catch up this month. I really hope we get to catch up next month, and I'm hoping that it won't be so late in the month. I hope you enjoy the last couple of days in October, have a wonderful Halloween, and have a great start to November.  See you next month!

What would you tell me?

Thanks for visiting!

Until next time...
