Best advice I've received lately...

Hello there and Happy Friday! Today is day 30 in the blog every day in May challenge. Today's prompt is: best advice you've received lately.

Take it one day at a time.

I really, really, really needed to hear those words. I tend to try to do too much in a short amount of time. And then I get overwhelmed. In addition, I don't really do too well with change. I like everything to be planned the way that I want or how I am used to.

Recently, I've been feeling a little overwhelmed and a friend told me to take it one day at time...just breathe, relax...you got this. I seriously needed to hear those words. I'm so glad that she told me that. If I ever get overwhelmed, I definitely hope that I remember those words. Maybe I should type the advice and add some designs to it so that I can print it out and frame it. I definitely won't forget it if it's on my desk.

What's the best advice you've received lately?

Until next time...

What have you said 'yes' to today?

Hello there! As you know I am participating in the blog every day in May challenge. Today is day 29 in the challenge and the prompt for today is: what have you said 'yes' to today?

I actually had to think about this one. Then I realized that there are several ways that you can look at  this prompt which is awesome. So what did I say yes to today?

I said yes to:

  • To my boys...they wanted an extra ice cream
  • Getting pizza for dinner
  • Cleaning the entire house and getting most of the laundry done (so I can relax tomorrow)
  • Me time
  • Going over to my mom's house so she can watch the boys for a little bit
  • Having an extra ice cream cone (for me) :)
  • Being comfy...and wearing yoga pants and oversized shirt

What have you said yes to today?

Until next time...

Familia

Hello there! Today is day 28 in the blog every day in May challenge. Today's prompt is: Family. What do you love? Best traits? What crazy genetics do you have in common? Fave photo?

Familia...where do I begin? Family can be complicated, but so simple at the same time. Family is awesome and just makes me happy. I absolutely love my family even those who I do not speak to often. I love my husband and my children. I love my mother and my siblings. We may argue at times and no matter how much time may pass, we still love each other. I love when our family starts expanding and seeing new life added to the familia. New babies, in laws, etc. is truly a blessing.

When I think about it, I have a large family. I've even "met" family members who I have never spoken to via Facebook (yes...seriously real family members...it's a long story). It's amazing what that people can find family on social media.

I could go on and on about family, but it would probably take forever. There's just so much that can be said about family. Every family is different and although not every family is super happy...I like to think that the love is still there for every single family.

What do you love about your family? Do you have a favorite photo? I look forward to reading all of the other posts in the link up over at the Love Happy Daily blog.

Until next time...

Currently List #6

Hello there! It's Tuesday and you know what that means...it's Currently List time! This is my sixth card that I am posting here on my blog. I absolutely love filling these cards out! There are so many different ways to use these cards. I use them for my Project Life album. I may even use a few for future mini albums.

Watching: I love watching La Patrona. It comes on really late so I have to record it....thank goodness for my DVR.

Reading: I always wake up and check my emails and then check my blog. I've also been reading posts from the blogs that I read like Ramblings of a Suburban Mom and Amanda Rose blog.

Listening: I really, really love this song. I literally have it on repeat.

Making: I have so many things to do this week so I have to finalize the list now since it's already Tuesday.

Feeling: I'm feeling content...it looks like it's going to be a great day and I hope it's an awesome week as well.

Planning: I have seriously got to finish this Disney album. I want to get it done before I go to Disney so that when I get back all I have to do is add journaling and my pictures. I definitely will be working on this on Friday...I'm just glad that I only have to add embellishments since the album is put together.

Loving: I love Project Life and all the different things that you can do with it. I love looking at other people's albums and how creative everyone is. I also have been enjoying seeing other crafting projects as well. Is it weird that I am already looking at crafting projects for the Fall and Winter (like Halloween and Christmas)?

May 2014 Conscious Box

Hello there and Happy Memorial Day! Before I get into my Conscious Box review, I want to thank our veterans and current servicemen and women who serve our country.

For those of you who are participating in the blog every day in May challenge, today is day 26! The challenge is almost over and it has been so much fun! I've done most of the challenges (except for one or two that I didn't want to do), but I made sure to still blog every day which is what my main goal was. Today's prompt is: invite someone to guest post for you.

Instead of doing this prompt, I will be reviewing my May 2014 Conscious Box. So here we go...

First view of the box

After taking the wrapping off

Clif Kid Organic Z Bar: I was super excited to get this. I have been wanting to get this for my boys, but was worried about buying a whole box and then the boys not liking it. They haven't tried it yet so hopefully today I can get them to try it.

Cascadian Farm Super Squares: I have heard of this brand before. I never really bothered to try them though, but I was glad that I received this. I have seen a lot of people purchase Cascadian Farm products. I did try it...I didn't hate, but I didn't love it either. However, I may purchase a box and try some other flavors.

ECOVER Dishwasher Tablets: I received this in last month's box. I was glad that I found out that I can put it in a cutlery basket. So I will be trying it.

Natural Dynamix-Kramp Krusher: I'm not an endurance athlete so this won't be too useful for me. I will be passing this along.

Flora-Floradix: This is an iron and herb supplement. This may be useful so I think I'm going to keep it around.

Weleda Replenishing Shampoo and Conditioner: I received this in a previous box. I will be putting this in my travel bag with the other sample that I received.

San Francisco Bay Gourmet Coffee: I use my Keurig to make coffee so I'm not sure how I'm going to make this. It smells very strong. I immediately knew that I had some type of coffee sample when I opened my box. Also I'm not much of a coffee drinker...I prefer hot chocolate and I do love caramel macchiatos.

Ito-En Match Green Tea Latte: I received this in a different flavor last month. I will be passing this on to someone else. I do not like tea at all so I was a little disappointed to get this in my box.

Flents Wipe 'N Clear Wipe: This is really cool and I love that it's biodegradable. I plan to use these on my sunglasses.

Crystal Body Deodorant Towelettes:  I also received this in my previous box. I have also put this in my travel bag as well so it will be used.

Nordic Naturals Omega Boost: I also received this in my last box and I will be using it as well. I really think that it is cool that it's not a vitamin that's in a pill, but that it looks like it can be mixed in something.

Bio Bag 3 Gallong Bag: I love this! I usually use my reusable bags to go shopping, but I occasionally use plastic bags for dirty diapers. I will have to look for these bags in stores.

I also received a few coupons and a pamphlet with some information on the towelettes.

So that is my review. I wouldn't say that this was the best box since I had several items that I received and I would have preferred to have received something different. However, there were several items that I did like.

Do you subscribe to Conscious Box? Or any other subscription boxes? If you participated in the blog every day in May challenge, please let me know who was your guest blogger.

Until next time...

3 Dinner Guests

Hello there and Happy Saturday! Today is day 24 in the blog every day in May challenge. Today's prompt is: If you could have 3 people to dinner tonight, who would you invite?

Picking 3 people would be really tough. There are so many interesting people out there. However, I know someone I would for sure love to have for dinner would be...

  1. My grandmother. She passed away when my mother was very young (around 9 or 10 years old). I would have loved to have met her and I know my mother would absolutely love to have her back.
  2. Michael Buble. I love his songs. Maybe he could he even sing at dinner! That would be awesome.
  3. Maya Rudolph. She's super funny and you can't have dinner without lots of laughs.

There are several other people who I would love to invite to dinner such as:

  • The Mirabal Sisters
  • Adam Sandler
  • Obama
  • Abraham Lincoln
  • Natalie Wood
  • The flag raisers on Iwo Jima (Ira Hayes, Franklin Sousley, Michael Strank, John Bradley, Rene Gagnon, and Harlon Block)
  • Lt. Col Jacqueline Cochran
  • Hillary Rodham Clinton
  • Edgar Allan Poe

My entire family would have to be at dinner as well. It just wouldn't be the same without them.

Who would you invite to your dinner party?

Until next time...

Emi

Blog and Social Media Comments

Hello everyone and Happy Friday! Today is day 23 in the blog every day in May challenge. Today's prompt is: write a post about a particularly good or controversial comment someone left you.

I just launched my blog and all of the comments that I have received have been wonderful. So thank you to all of those who have commented on my posts. It's awesome to know that there are people who are reading my blog.

Now as for social media and comments...that's a different story. I love to read different articles, books, etc. A lot of times, I will share the articles that I have read and sometimes people like the articles and sometimes...not so much. I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but what bothers me is when people decide to voice their opinion in a rude way. The way I look at it is that we are all different and while we may not agree 100% of the time, that does not mean you have to call people names or say that their opinion is "stupid", "invalid", etc.

I just read Anna from One Big Sunshine Spritzer and her post on today's prompt just really spoke to me. She is so right that words are a powerful weapon. We definitely should choose them wisely.

Once again, thank you to all of those who comment on my blog and those of you who read my blog as well. I truly appreciate it.

Has anyone ever left you a good or controversial comment on your blog (or on any social media site)?

Until next time...

Emi

Oh, the Places You'll Go

Hello there! Today is day 22 of the blog every day in May challenge. Today's prompt is: share a video clip that you are loving at the moment.

I have a lot of favorite videos that I love to watch. Some of these videos are music videos, videos of families reuniting (i.e. military families), funny videos, etc. One of the videos that I am currently loving is this video by Alex Chacon. He took 3 years worth of selfies and made a video. All of the pictures are in different countries and it is just amazing! Seriously check it out!

How much fun would it be to travel to all those different places? To see all those different things? The culture? Just everything. Pure awesomeness.

Where would you like to travel to?

Until next time...

What's on your plate?

Hello there! Today is day 21 of the blog every day in May challenge. Today's prompt is: What's on your plate? However, in my case, I guess you could say what's in your bowl?

I'm really bad with eating breakfast. However, I am working on it. Today, I decided to post a snack that I had earlier today. I haven't had Cookie Crisp cereal in a few months now and it was so delicious. I definitely plan to eat more cereal for breakfast (and maybe for snacks too).

What's on your plate (or in your bowl)?

Until next time...

Currently List #5

Hello there! It's Tuesday and you know what that means...it's Currently List time! This is my 5th Currently card that I am posting on here! You can see my previous cards hereherehere, and hereI plan to post a Currently card every week. I got this idea from Kristin at Rukristin.

Watching: I absolutely love Ghost Hunters and anything that has to do with the paranormal...don't judge me lol. Seriously though, it really is an awesome show.

Reading: I am in love with the Food Network magazine and Everyday with Rachel Ray magazine. They have some really good recipes. I have to start my subscription again on these two magazines. I'm going to make a list of the recipes that really stood out to me and maybe I can make some for dinner or lunch.

Listening: I love my sound machine. Since I'm not feeling well, I turned this on and turned the lights off. I feel well rested, but my back still hurts...which is no bueno.

Making: I seriously need to finish my Disney mini album. I'm glad that the pages are all complete. I just need to finish adding the embellishments so that the only I will need to do is add pictures and some journaling.

Feeling: Pain (read above).

Planning: I'm planning some more blog posts. I am supposed to be getting my second Conscious Box as well as my first KLUTCHclub (a Best of Box) so I definitely will make some review posts on these two.

Loving: I love, love, love Bath and Body Works Stress Relief products. I've been using the body wash, lotion, and spray a lot this week. I also love their Sleep line as well.

My Dream Job

Hello there and Happy Monday! Today is day 19 in the blog every day in May challenge. Today's prompt is: Dream Job?

I love this prompt. I always think about what my dream job is and what it is I really want to do. I have a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources. However, I do not know what I want to really do yet.

I would love to work from home. I absolutely want a career that allows me to have flexible hours and that would allow me to work from any place in the world. I have always wanted to own my own business (see I have always been interested in business) and lately I have seriously been thinking about what type of business I would love to own. I have also wanted to be an author, but it seems like it would be a little difficult to break into that. I have also liked crafting lately and would love to set up a mini shop online.

So basically I may not know exactly what I want career I want or what type of business I want to own, but I do know what I would love in my career which are:

  1. Flexible hours
  2. Be able to work from home (or anywhere else)
  3. Decent pay (I don't have to be a millionaire...although that would be awesome lol)
  4. Some traveling (not a lot because I'll miss my kids and my husband)
  5. Allow me to be creative and share my own ideas

What is your dream job?

Until next time...

A Day in the Life

Hello there! Today is day 17 in the blog every day in May challenge. Today's prompt is: photo journal your day today.

Today was a quiet and kind of lazy day. I didn't take a ton of photos today. I'm horrible at taking a lot of photos and I tend to journal more than take photos. Plus today just felt like a...blah day. We just primarily relaxed and watched cartoons and movies all day today.

We actually slept in today and woke up around 8:30 a.m.

I got this cute embellishment organizer.

At 10:00 a.m. we went to Hobby Lobby, Bath and Body Works, and Chik-fil-A for some breakfast.

At 12:00 p.m. we arrived home. I put the stuff I bought away. The boys were watching t.v. and playing.

My husband went in to work at 1:00 p.m. At 2:00 p.m., the boys and I watched Mickey Mouse Club House.

4:00 p.m., I worked on PL (I needed to catch up on the last 2 weeks). After I finished journaling, the boys and I watched Wreck-It Ralph and ate some pizza.

Best ice cream ever!!!

6:00 p.m. We played some more, watched more cartoons, dinner time and ate some ice cream.

8:00 p.m. Time for the boys' bath and got them ready for bed. Apparently, my youngest son did not want to go to sleep (my oldest fell asleep almost immediately).

9:00 p.m. Little one and I are laying in bed waiting for daddy to come home.

10:00 p.m. Little one is asleep.

10:30 p.m. Hubby is on his way home.

10:45 p.m. Hubby is home and I am working on finishing this blog prompt.

How was your day today? Hope you all had a great day and have an awesome weekend!

Until next time...

Sharing the Love

Hello there! Today is day 16 of the the blog every day in May challenge. Today's prompt is to: share the 5 blogs that I love reading regularly.

I definitely read more than 5 blogs, but the ones listed below are the ones that I read the most and regularly. All 5 of these blogs are amazing and unique.

Amanda Rose - I absolutely love Amanda Rose's blog. She is simply amazing and posts the most awesome stuff. She blogs about Project Life and documenting life, craft projects, her life, etc. She really is inspiring.

Rukristin - Kristin is another amazing blogger. She also blogs about documenting life, blogging, and crafts.

Ramblings of a Suburban Mom - This is another amazing and interesting blog. Jennifer blogs about subscription boxes and her life. I love reading and seeing all of the subscription boxes that are out there.

Ali Edwards - This is a crafting blog. She has also created several workshops including her well known One Little Word course.

Our Holly Days - I just recently started reading Holly's blog. I first found out about her blog from a Facebook page group that we are a part of. She blogs about crafts, clothes/style, recipes, and her planner (for those who love organization and planners).

I definitely recommend these blogs and totally think that everyone should check them out. What blogs do you love to read?

Until next time...

Vision Board

Hello there! Today is day 15 of the blog every day in May challenge. Today's prompt is: create or share a poster, card, or artwork that shares a message that inspires you.

I created this poster/vision board for my One Little Word album (it was one of the assignments). I loved creating this vision board. My word for the year is CREATE. I used DCWV Vintage Collector Line. I need to frame this and hang it up near my desk. It really does inspire me to create.

Is there a poster, card, or artwork that inspires you?

Until next time...

April 2014 Conscious Box Review

Hello there! My husband got me an early Mother's Day gift which was a subscription to Conscious Box. Every month, subscribers get a box that is filled with natural, healthy, GMO-free products.  There are 3 different boxes available: Classic, Gluten Free, and Vegan. The boxes come in two different sizes which are Plus and Taster. If you choose the Plus box, you usually get 8-12 items and many of these are full sized products. If you choose the Taster box then you get 5-8 items. The subscription ships for free and is $19.95 a month. You also get to choose your subscription length as well.

First look at the box

I was really excited when I finally got my box. I didn't get to see any spoilers online even though I did check their Facebook page a couple of times. I love that there was an information card included and I hope that they include one every month.

After taking the wrapping paper off

I absolutely loved what I saw once I took the wrapping paper off. I was a little surprised by the size of the box and didn't think that there would be too much stuff in there even though the box was kinda heavy. Once I opened it, I saw there was a lot of stuff in there and that it was heavy due to the drink.

Spatone pur-Absorb Iron

pur-Absorb is a natural supplement that can help people who have an iron deficiency. So if you are feeling weak or fatigued or even know that you have issues with your iron, this is supposed to help with that. I haven't tried this yet, but I will soon.

Nordic Naturals: Omega Boost

This is a mango flavored packet that has omega-3s in it. It is for heart, brain, and immune support. I'm excited to try this out because I keep hearing that Omega-3s are really good for you. Plus, the immune support is awesome.

Crystal: Deodorant Towelettes

I haven't used this yet, but I did pack it in my travel bag for my upcoming trip. I figured I could try it then.

 ECOVER: Dishwasher Tablets

I don't use dishwasher tablets. I use powder dishwasher detergent so I am not sure if I am going to keep this or give it to my mom or in laws to try.

Plum Organics: Kids Fruit & Veggie Shredz

I absolutely loved this! Why? Because my kids loved it! I actually had two pieces of the shredz (call me crazy, but I have to try it first before giving stuff to my kids) and they were good. I've been wanting to try this brand, but was not sure if my kids would like it or not. So it looks like I will be on the hunt for the shredz.

Vintage Italia: Pasta Chips-Alfredo ($1.79 for 2 oz).

Oh these were delicious and my boys loved these too! I never heard of the brand so I was excited to try these. These were not too overpowering and I loved that they were baked. They are also made with semolina and there are several different flavors. I will be on the look out for these as well.

Weleda: Replenishing Shampoo & Conditioner

I've seen these around, but never bought them before. I am a little hesitant to try because I am so used to using the shampoo and conditioner that

Ito-En: Teas' Tea Black Tea Latte

I do not like tea at all and neither does my husband so I think I may give this to my sister to try. It does sounds interesting and their website says that it is brewed with tea leaves from Sri Lanka. It also apparently has a deep flavor.

Natralia: Dry Skin Lotion

I also packed this in my travel bag as well. This lotion is free of sulfates, paragons, fragrances, and artificial colors. It can also be used for the entire family which is great.

Smith & Vandiver: Bath Bombs (Detox Therapy)- $3.00

I loved this! I love bath and body products so I was really excited to try this. I never tried or heard of this brand before which made this even more exciting to try. It really was awesome and simple to use. You just drop it into the bathtub. The bath bomb that I received was the Detox Therapy. It had pink grapefruit and ginger which is supposed to help naturally get rid or toxins and impurities.

Coupons

I also received several coupons on the products that I received. I'm glad that most of the coupons are for products that I did like or that I plan to try.

I was not able to get the prices on all of the items because it just started to take a little too long. Overall, I am impressed with this box and can't wait for my May Conscious Box to arrive.

Until next time...

My Favorite Poem

Hello there! Today is day 13 of the blog everyday in May challenge. Today's prompt is: write a poem or piece of creative prose. I decided to do something differently and post one of my favorite poems by Sylvia Plath.

"I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead;
I lift my lids and all is born again.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)

The stars go waltzing out in blue and red,
And arbitrary blackness gallops in:
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.

I dreamed that you bewitched me into bed
And sung me moon-struck, kissed me quite insane.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)

God topples from the sky, hell's fires fade:
Exit seraphim and Satan's men:
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.

I fancied you'd return the way you said,
But I grow old and I forget your name.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)

I should have loved a thunderbird instead;
At least when spring comes they roar back again.
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)"

What are some of your favorite poems or favorite poets?

Until next time...

Emi

Currently List #4

Hello there! It's Tuesday again and you know what that means...it's Currently List time! This is my fourth currently card. Each Tuesday I plan to post a Currently card. I got this idea from Kristin from Rukristin and you can learn more about how she came up with the Currently card.

Do you fill out Currently cards?

Until next time...

How 'The Emi Times' got its name (and tagline)

Hello! Hello! I hope everyone had a great weekend and all of the mamas out there had a wonderful Mother's Day. Today is day 12 of the blog every day in May challenge. Today's prompt is: tell us how your blog got its name (and tagline).

For about a year now (maybe a year and a half), I have been wanting to launch a blog. However, it kept being pushed back for several reasons. For instance, I was in college, had lots of wedding planning, work, and of course my family life. Once, I graduated from college in July and the wedding planning was complete (my wedding was just 6 days after graduation), I suddenly had some extra free time. Surprisingly, the launch still kept being pushed back, but that was due to me procrastinating...and to be honest, I was a little bit afraid. I like everything to be perfect and I wanted my launch and my blog to be perfect.

One day, I was reading some posts on the One Little Word Facebook page and came across a post about the blog every day in May challenge. Luckily, I saw the post a few days before May and that was when I decided that I just need to stop being afraid and finally launch my blog...and so I did.

Even though I kept procrastinating, I kept thinking about what I should name my blog. The only thing that kept popping up was 'The Emi Times'. I knew I didn't want to use my actual name, but I did want something that was similar to my real name. I thought of all the nicknames that people would me such as Ems and Emi. Emi (and I love that name) seemed to stick and just sounds so much better than 'The Ems Times'. This blog is basically a lifestyle blog because I didn't want to just stick to just one topic like crafting or Project Life. I plan to write about anything that interests me such as recipes, crafts, parenting, things that happen in my life, my perspective on things, etc.

As for my tagline, I was not too sure what to put there (until today). I figured that since my blog is a lifestyle blog then I should just keep it simple and have the tagline be 'a lifestyle blog'.

So now you know how my blog got its name (and tagline). How did your blog get its name and tagline?

Until next time...

Emi

Happy Mother's Day

Hello there! Today, I will not be doing the prompt for the blog every day in May Challenge due it being Mother's Day. It's been a very busy (and full of surprises) day. I know it is late, but I just wanted to wish all of the mamas, soon-to-be moms, etc. a very....

My favorite life quote

Hello there! Today is day 10 in the blog every day in May challenge. Today's prompt is: a fashion, beauty, or life tip. I chose a life tip and it just so happens to be my favorite quote right now.

I love this quote so much! I even have it on my Erin Condren Life Planner. It's so simple, but so amazing. I think I'm going to actually type this quote up, design it a little bit, and frame it. If I get overwhelmed or don't think I can do something, I just look at my planner or remember this quote and the stress just goes away. All you have to do is believe and take action.

Do you have a fashion, beauty, or life tip that you would like to share?

Until next time...

5 Things I Love on a Friday

Hello there! Today is day 9 in the blog every day in May challenge. Today's prompt is 5 Things I Love on a Friday. Today's prompt is awesome. First off, I love Fridays...I always have and probably always will.

1. Everything is so much more relaxed on a Friday. It is like my free day. I always have all of the major cleaning done before Friday (although I may have to do some minor cleaning/touchups especially since I have kids).

2. Craft/Project Life Day: I usually try to craft, work on PL, or any other project whenever I can, but I usually have a lot more time on Fridays to get stuff done.

3. Fridays mean that the weekend is almost here. That means that my oldest son does not have any school and we can all just stay up late and watch cartoons or play.

4. Laundry! Yes, it may sound weird, but I love doing laundry on Fridays because I don't have a lot of  to-dos and errands to get done. It's basically the only major chore I have to do (depending on how much laundry I got done in the week anyway).

5. I am able to catch up on reading some magazines and I can catch up on t.v. shows.

What are 5 things you love on a Friday?

Until next time...

On my reading list

Hello everyone! Today is day 8 in the blog every day in May challenge. The prompt for today is share a book that you'd like to read, but haven't yet. What draws you to it?

When I found out what today's prompt would be, I got excited because I absolutely love to read. I have so many books on my Nook and in print. I am always looking for new books to buy and it has gotten to the point that I have a lot of books that I have not even read yet. So for now, I decided to just try and read all of the books that I have right now before going out and purchasing. I won't make any promises though.

One of the books on my reading list (and that I actually have purchased already) is The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. I have heard that this is a great book and it was on Barnes and Noble list of recommended reads for college graduates. The book discusses how people should live life to the fullest and discusses things that Pausch wanted his children to know after he passes away.

It sounds like an interesting book and I can't wait to get some time to start reading this book. Hopefully, I can get started today.

What's on your reading list? Do you read a lot?

Until next time...
